NOTA DE PRENSA DE PAZ AHORA.(Madrid / Barcelona 13 de Agosto de 2003)

VOLUNTARIAS y VOLUNTARIOS de PAZ AHORA en MARCHA hacia PALESTINA para UNIRSE a las MISIONES INTERNACIONALES de PAZ.

Saldrn escalonadamente desde Madrid y Barcelona, para evitar lo sucedido a otras misiones pacifistas deportadas por la polica israel al aterrizar en el aeropuerto de Tel-A-Viv.

Desde su fundacin Paz Ahora ha practicado la injerencia no violenta en los conflictos armados. La primera misin de Paz Ahora fue la "Caravana por la Paz a Sarajevo" en 1993 coordinadamente con pacifistas de otros 14 pases. Paz Ahora ha intervenido tambin sobre el terreno en apoyo de la paz en Kosovo rechazando tanto la limpieza tnica del gobierno Milosevic como los bombardeos de la OTAN, y ms tarde en Afganistn solidarizndose activamente con las organizaciones de mujeres opuestas al fundamentalismo religioso y misgino de la dictadura talibn.
Por segundo ao consecutivo Paz Ahora acude a Palestina. Nuestros voluntarios van a ejercer una labor humanitaria puesto que portarn hasta la castigada ciudad de Jenn repuestos mecnicos y electrnicos adems de productos qumicos imprescindibles para mantener en funcionamiento la planta de hemodilisis del hospital municipal "Dr Soleiman". Este es un proyecto que nuestra ONG lleva a cabo desde la primavera de 2002 en que Jenin fue sometida a un duro asedio por parte del ejercito israel. Durante aquellas jornadas terribles el hospital municipal fue daado parcialmente. El rea de hemodilisis (los "riones artificiales") atienden a pacientes de un extenso territorio que comprende hasta Nabls y su rea de influencia, que carecen de este servicio dadas las grandes carencias sanitarias de la poblacin de los territorios ocupados.
Pero es tambin una misin de injerencia humanitaria : en estrecha colaboracin con organizaciones pacifistas palestinas (singularmente el ISM- Movimiento de Solidaridad Internacional) e israeles nuestros voluntarios van a acompaar a los pacientes de hemodilisis que viajan diariamente de Nabls a Jenn para verificar que los controles militares no interrumpen el paso a las ambulancias como viene siendo practica habitual, van a residir en campos de refugiados en aquellos domicilios que estn amenazados de demolicin por parte del ejercito y sus escavadoras, y sobre todo harn de observadores para denunciar los abusos que puedan llevar a cabo las fuerzas israeles durante los intermitentes "toques de queda" y en los "check points" ayudando en esta tarea a los pacifistas locales que diariamente ejercen esta funcin de control.
En estos momentos el centro de la denuncia de los pacifistas es la construccin del que ya se conoce como "muro del Apartheid". Ayer 12 de Agosto se inicia una protesta de dos semanas de duracin a la que se incorporarn parte
de nuestro equipo de voluntarios y los primeros ataques del ejercito y de la polica contra los pacifistas no violentos
han dejado ya un saldo de heridos y detenidos.

La primavera pasada una escavadora acab con la vida de la voluntaria estadounidense Rachel Corrie cuando
intentaba impedir la demolicin de una vivienda. Otro voluntario britnico del ISM (International Solidarity Movement)
est clnicamente muerto desde pocas fechas despus del fallecimiento de Rachel. Desde esta fatdica primavera el
gobierno Sharon se ha ensaado con los pacifistas internacionales puesto que no desea testigos molestos. Docenas
de "internacionales" han sido detenidos y algunos deportados. A otros tan siquiera se les ha permitido salir del
aeropuerto de Tel-A-Viv obligndoles a retornar a casa.

PAZ AHORA PRESS RELEASE (Madrid / Barcelona August 12 2003)

PAZ AHORAS PEACE VOLUNTEERS in ROUTE to PALESTINE to JOIN the INTERNATIONAL PEACE MISSIONS.

They will depart from Madrid and Barcelona at different dates in small groups to avoid what happenned to other peace
missions, deported by the israeli police when landing to Tel Aviv airport.

Since the moment of its foundation Paz Ahora has practiced a nonviolent injerence in violent conflicts. The first Paz
Ahora mission was the "Peace Caravan to Sarajevo" in 1993, in coordination with peace activists of 14 other
countries. Paz Ahora has been also present on the ground in support of the peace in Kosovo, protesting both the
ethnic cleansing of the Milosevics government as well as the indiscriminate NATO shellings, and later in Afghanistan
in solidarity with the women organizations opposed to the misogynist fundamentalism of taliban religious
dictatorship.

Paz Ahora comes to Palestine by second consecutive year. Our volunteers are ready for their humanitary task, taking
to the injured city of Jenin mechanical and electronic spare pieces as well as chemical products indispensable to
keep operative the haemodialysis plant of the Dr.Suleiman Municipality Hospital. Our NGO carries out this project
since spring 2002, when Jenin was victim of the hardest assail by the israeli army. In the course of those horrendous
days the Municipality Hospital was seriously damaged. The haemodialysis area ("the mechanical kidney") attends to
patients of a large area whose coverage reaches even Nablus and its influence area (which lacks such a medical
service), given the huge sanitary deficiencies suffered by the population of the occupied territories.

But this is also a mission of humanitary intervention. In close colaboration with palestine organizations for peace
(particularly the ISM, International Solidarity Movement) and their israeli counterparts, our volunteers will go along as
a companion to the haemodialysis patients which travel daily from Nablus to Jenin, in order to verify that the military
controls do not interrupt the pass to the ambulances as it has became common; will reside in the refugee camps in
the houses sentenced to demolition by the army and their bulldozers, and first of all will serve as observers to
dennounce the abuses the israely forces may incur during the intermitent sieges and in the "check-points",
supporting to the local activists for peace which carry out daily this control task.

At the present moment the core target of the pacifist denounces is the building of what is already known as the
"Apartheid Wall". Yesterday, Aug. the 12th, has started a two weeks protest campaign to which a group of our
volunteers will join. The first attacks of the army against the nonviolent activists has left already an account of injuried
and arrested people.

Last spring 2003 a bulldozer cut the life of Rachel Corrie, a volunteer from the U.S.A.,when she tried to avoid the
demolition of a house. Other volunteer, a british from the ISM, remains clinically dead since a few days after Rachels
death. Since this fatidic spring the Sharon government has a target in the international peace activists because he
does not want the disturb of the eye-witnesses. Dozens of "internationals" have been arrested and some of them
deported. A part of them has been never allowed to get out of Tel Aviv airport been returned home by force.
